Vote No on the SAVE Act

To: Rep. Kelly, Sen. Hyde-Smith, Sen. Wicker

From: A verified voter in Saltillo, MS

March 19

I'm asking you to vote no on the SAVE Act introduced by Rep. Chip Roy. This bill would create far more problems than it solves. Noncitizen voting is already illegal and extraordinarily rare. Utah reviewed over 2 million registered voters and found one confirmed noncitizen registration and zero instances of noncitizen voting. Meanwhile, 9% of eligible voters lack easy access to documentary proof of citizenship, and 52% of registered voters don't have an unexpired passport with their current legal name. Kansas saw this play out: their documentary proof requirement blocked 31,000 eligible citizens from registering, while noncitizen registration had been just 0.002% of voters. The SAVE Act takes effect immediately with no funding for implementation and gives election officials just 10 days to develop guidance. It threatens criminal penalties against officials who register applicants without documents, even if those applicants are actually citizens. This will create chaos in an already strained election system. Back-end database verification is more effective and doesn't disenfranchise thousands of eligible voters. Vote no.
