Expedite Return of Wrongfully Deported Maryland Resident

To: Rep. Self, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Princeton, TX

April 7

The administration's decision to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident married to a U.S. citizen, to the notoriously dangerous CECOT prison in El Salvador is a egregious violation of his rights and human dignity. Despite a 2019 court order prohibiting his removal due to credible fears of persecution by gangs in El Salvador, he was wrongfully arrested, detained, and forcibly sent to a prison known for housing rival gang members in hazardous conditions. This action shocks the conscience and defies all legal justification. The government has provided no evidence to substantiate unfounded accusations of gang affiliation against Mr. Abrego Garcia. Forcibly transferring individuals to prisons abroad, as admitted by Secretary Noem, constitutes an unlawful outsourcing of the U.S. prison system and a flagrant disregard for due process. The practical means to secure Mr. Abrego Garcia's prompt return undoubtedly exist, despite the government's claims to the contrary. Expediting his repatriation is a moral and legal imperative to correct this grave injustice and uphold the rule of law. Urgent action must be taken to bring Mr. Abrego Garcia home to his family and restore the fundamental rights and protections to which he is entitled.
