It has come to my attention that some regional facilities of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) are being targeted for closures, including the one in San Francisco/San Bruno, CA and Chicago. I write to you to express my opposition to the closures of the San Bruno and other NARA regional facilities.
Closing these facilities and moving those records to the Missouri NARA center would not only remove the materials from their places of relevance but would effectively cut off public access to important public records.
Ultimately, this closure creates an unnecessary barrier to public information. While I understand NARA faces budget and real estate challenges, fiscal efficiency should not come at the cost of community access and historical preservation.
Thus, I join the thousands of other concerned individuals and organizations in strongly urging you to halt the closures.
