I am writing to inform you that the Global Sumud Flotilla is suspected to have been intercepted by the IOF, including 5 US military veterans, and that we suspect they are currently being detained by Israel. Throughout the Flotilla’s journey to deliver vital humanitarian aid into Gaza, Israel has violated international law by using drones to harass this peaceful, non-violent mission, launching drone strikes on civilians in international waters. The silence from the U.S. government, as well as your individual refusal to intervene, reflects your broader refusal to stand against both domestic and international injustices and crimes against humanity. I am calling on you to publicly call for the protection and immediate return of all of those aboard the flotilla, to pressure the State Department to demand the release of U.S. hostages, and to enact an arms embargo on and defund Israel. I denounce our connection and relationship with Israel and refuse to recognize them as a viable ally, as their actions and methods of genocidal warfare are something that no U.S. official should support. Your continued inaction has paved the way for our current political reality. Will you take action in calling for the safe passage and protection of, and the immediate release of those being wrongfully detained by Israel for delivering vital humanitarian aid to a starving population? Will you support Block the Bombs legislation to stop sending weapons being used for genocide?
