I am writing to request immediate action by Congress to stop the disastrous Trump recession. President Trump's economic polices display short sighted disregard for the American people, alienate our allies abroad, and cause pain for the most vulnerable. Consumers and retirees are now hurting and it will get worse because of President Trump. President Trump inherited a growing economy. The Biden Administration's careful economic moves, involving targeted investment with fiscal discipline, were not flashy and did not completely halt the expanding inflation due to President Trump's last term. But economists the world over were praising Biden and his administration for an economy that even conservative economists called "the envy of the world." President Trump, a business man with numerous bankruptcies under his belt who crashed the economy in 2020 and caused the deaths of millions during COVID19, could not be trusted to continue growth. President Trump has adopted irrational ill advised tariffs, which has resulted in turmoil in the markets. Retirees and those with 401k and other market based retirement plans are watching TRILLIONS of dollars evaporate. Trillions of dollars in value for small folks in rural places who rely on their pensions - gone - as the tariffs drive the cost of consumer goods through the roof. Foolish and stupid does not being to cover it. As the stock market crashes, it is important to recall that President Trump has not been a good steward of the economy. Republicans have done NOTHING to stop him. President Trump has cause uncertainty and bled consumer confidence by enabling the unelected invested foreign billionaire Elon Musk to cut thousands of federal jobs. President Trump has caused economic uncertainty by threatening funding cuts to crucial engines of growth like libraries, universities, and medical research centers. President Trump has facilitated the termination of thousands of federal contractors. This is a calamity - but it was easy to predict. To anyone who was listening, none of this is a surprise. Trump promised job cuts for the federal government and massive tariffs. Savvy voters understood what this would mean. Only those deeply captured or profoundly clueless thought the tariffs were tax cuts. I suspect that many never believed that anyone would actually do something this stupid. As sophisticated legislators YOU must have understood. President Trump and his lackeys like Elon Musk have SAID the American people will experience pain. Trump and Musk told us that people would be hurt. So what did we expect? We expected Congress to serve as a guardrail. We expected Congress to protect the people. We expected Congress to act to stop this madness. I trust that now that the economy is in free fall that you will do everything in your power to stop the Trump tariffs and the Trump recession from crushing the people of this country. We the people will be watching you closely and hoping for the best.
