I am terrified by the ever-growing power that Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) wield over the American government and people. When an individual, not chosen by the people nor confirmed through established processes, is granted access to classified or sensitive federal operations, it raises severe ethical and security concerns. The American public deserves to know how and why such access has been permitted, and, more importantly, what steps are being taken to correct this dangerous oversight.
According to the U.S. Constitution's appointments clause, principal officers of the United States must be appointed by the President with approval from the Senate. Elon Musk has not undergone this confirmation process, meaning that his current authority and actions are unlawful. The notion that someone without electoral legitimacy or formal accountability can exert influence over critical governmental functions is not only deeply troubling but poses a serious risk to the integrity of our institutions.
Nevertheless, Musk and DOGE continue to violate numerous federal privacy laws, removing digital securities and accessing the sensitive personal and financial information of millions of American taxpayers, federal employees, and citizens receiving government benefits without consent or proper legal justification. This unprecedented intrusion into individuals' privacy is a serious breach of federal law and raises significant ethical concerns.
Legal experts describe DOGE's actions as illegal, breaking multiple privacy, security, and congressional laws and regulations. Even if the White House and the Republican Party defend these actions, this does not change the level of gross negligence and illegality of DOGE and its leader.
Transparency, security, and trust in government are fundamental pillars of our democracy. It is crucial that Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency are thoroughly investigated and held accountable for their blatant non-compliance with federal laws. Now, more than ever, we need you need to stand up to protect the rights and privacy of Americans.
