Safeguard Veterans' Benefits Against Politicization and Cuts

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt, Rep. Smith

From: A constituent in Cape Girardeau, MO

November 8

I am writing to express my deep concern over recent attempts to politicize and potentially cut veterans' disability benefits. As a constituent who values the sacrifices made by our veterans, I urge you to stand firm in protecting and expanding the benefits they have earned through their service. Recent discussions following a Washington Post report on the VA disability compensation system have raised alarms. While some Republican lawmakers are pushing for reforms, it's crucial to note that veterans' advocacy groups have disputed the report's claims of widespread fraud. We must not let unsubstantiated allegations drive policy decisions that could harm our veterans. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Rep. Mark Takano have rightly emphasized that supporting veterans should not be a partisan issue. I strongly agree with this sentiment and ask that you join them in pledging unwavering support for veterans' benefits and services. The recent roundtable discussion, "Protecting the Promise: the Past, Present and Future of Veterans' Benefits," highlighted the importance of maintaining and expanding these crucial programs. Representatives from various veterans' organizations stressed this point, and I echo their concerns about potential cuts to VA benefits and services, especially those provided by the PACT Act. As your constituent, I urge you to: 1. Publicly commit to protecting existing veterans' benefits from any cuts or reductions. 2. Support initiatives to expand benefits to underserved veteran communities. 3. Resist any attempts to politicize veterans' issues or use them as bargaining chips in broader political negotiations. 4. Advocate for increased funding and resources for the VA to improve service delivery and address any legitimate concerns about the system's efficiency. Our veterans have sacrificed much for our country. It is our moral obligation to ensure they receive the care and support they need and deserve. Please stand with our veterans and against any efforts to undermine their hard-earned benefits.
