This past weekend the President of the United States posted on Truth Social that the Democratic Party is — in his own words — the greatest enemy America has. Not a foreign adversary. Not a terrorist organization. The party of roughly half of all American voters. My neighbors. My family. Possibly yours.
I have to be honest with you — that stopped me cold. And I believe it should stop you too.
I am one of your constituents, and I am reaching out because I trust that you take your oath to represent all of us seriously.
Your district includes Democratic voters. They pay taxes. They serve in the military. They coach little league, run small businesses, and show up to vote in every election. The President just called them enemies of the country they love. I do not believe that sits well with you, and I am hoping you will say so.
We have seen this kind of language before. Joseph McCarthy branded thousands of innocent Americans as enemies of the state and it took years — and enormous courage from a small number of people — before someone finally said enough was enough. I believe you have that same courage and I am asking you to use it now.
The stakes are real. Threats against members of Congress and their families rose by thousands in 2025 alone. When the most powerful voice in the world calls millions of Americans enemies, the consequences reach into real lives in real communities — including this one.
I am not here to tell you what to do. But I am hoping you will consider speaking out publicly, affirming that this president serves all Americans, and letting your constituents know clearly where you stand. A statement this week — even a brief one — would mean a great deal to a lot of people who are frightened right now and looking to their representatives for reassurance.
You have an opportunity here to show the kind of leadership that people will remember and be grateful for. I hope you will take it.
With respect and urgency,
