Legislators must uphold the civil rights and equal protection under the law for all Iowans, including transgender individuals. Removing gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Act would strip away essential non-discrimination protections in areas like housing, employment, education, and public accommodations. This harmful legislation goes against our values of equality and justice. It dismisses the very real struggles and discrimination faced by the transgender community. Rather than erasing and dehumanizing this vulnerable group, we should be expanding efforts to foster an inclusive society where every person is treated with dignity and respect. I urge you to reject this discriminatory bill and instead focus on policies that make Iowa a welcoming place for all residents.
