Block the Trump administration's proposed changes to Head Start before the October 6th comment deadline. The administration's regulatory overhaul would slash the administrative spending cap from 15% to 5%, loosen class size and staffing standards, eliminate background check requirements, and mandate English-only instruction — gutting the program's ability to serve nearly 800,000 low-income children.
Head Start works. It reduces teen pregnancies, raises adult wages, and provides critical services from food assistance to developmental screenings. These proposed changes would hit hardest the children who need the most support: kids with special needs and multilingual families. Having failed to defund Head Start outright, the administration is now trying to hollow it out through regulation. Congress needs to step in and protect both the program's funding levels and its evidence-based standards.
