I am writing as a concerned constituent and as an American who believes deeply in the Constitution and the rule of law.
What we are witnessing is not ordinary partisan disagreement, but clear and accelerating signs of an authoritarian consolidation of power. The Executive branch is distorting facts and reframing responsibility for the deaths of Americans in ways that undermine accountability and truth.
History shows complacency erodes democracy. When democratic norms are taken for granted, the institution weakens, and autocratic behavior is normalized. As my elected Republican official, your courage is required to uphold the Constitution you swore to defend.
Congress must:
• Reject further ICE funding that expands enforcement without meaningful oversight;
• Initiate impeachment proceedings where constitutional violations and abuses of power are evident;
• Remove Stephen Miller and others advancing policies rooted in fear, cruelty, and the dismantling of civil liberties.
These actions are not radical. They are safeguards. The Framers designed Congress to prevent the concentration of power we are now witnessing.
May we never forget the millions of Americans who have sacrificed and those that continue to sacrifice their lives for our freedom. Do not allow their service to be rendered meaningless by silence or political convenience.
Congress must stand up.
