No War with Iran: Support Senate Joint Res. 59

June 19

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to avoid any chance that Trump will take us to war with Iran by supporting Senate Joint Resolution 59. Congress must exercise its sole constitutional authority over authorizing military force and prevent another disastrous Middle East conflict. As stated, S.J. 59 is a joint resolution to direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran that have not been authorized by Congress. We all know a war with Iran would be ruinous. Congress needs to listen to the American people, not Netanyahu. Netanyahu's strikes on Iran violate international law, undermine nuclear negotiations, and risk escalating into a catastrophic regional war. If the United States gets involved, this reckless and undeclared war threatens countless civilian lives, would cost trillions more dollars, and jeopardizes U.S. troops in the region. Congress's must assert its proper role, preventing the President from unilaterally embroiling America in Netanyahu's war of choice against Iran without obtaining legislative consent as mandated by the Constitution. This Senate Joint Resolution upholds democratic principles, promotes de-escalation, and averts another destabilizing Middle East. Vote YES on S.J.Resolution 59. Prevent another war.
