Trump’s reckless and illegal actions have put us on the brink of a major war with Iran, putting millions of people in immediate danger. On June 21st, Trump ordered multiple B-2 bombers to drop bombs on three nuclear sites in Iran: an under-mountain facility at Fordow, a larger enrichment plant at Natanz, and a third site near the ancient city of Isfahan. The Iranian government retaliated, striking U.S. military bases in Qatar. Thankfully, early reports indicate that no one has been harmed by this response. On June 23rd, Trump announced a ceasefire agreement. Ceasefires save lives, and we welcome any action that stops the violence. An Israel-Iran ceasefire is a positive step, but the situation remains fragile. We must remain vigilant and ready to push back on ANY attempts by this administration to drag us into a devastating, unnecessary war. What happens next will be crucial — and this is the moment to keep going and do what we do best: Demand the kind of diplomacy that is capable of building a lasting peace. The potential for the bombings to resume is high, and we can’t risk the chance that Trump orders or supports further military action. Congress must immediately convene to pass war powers resolutions that block Trump from further escalation and demand diplomacy. The good news? Two urgently needed war powers resolutions — including bipartisan legislation in the House — have already been introduced.
