The United States’ decision to turn its back on NATO and the UN in favor of siding with Donald Trump and, by extension, autocrats like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jung Un, is a betrayal of everything this country is supposed to stand for. It is disgraceful.
My grandfather was a U.S. Marine in WWII. My grandmother was in the Nurse Corps. They sacrificed for a nation that defended democracy, that stood against dictators, that fought alongside allies who had our backs since the Great War. Today, that nation is unrecognizable. Today, I am ashamed to be an American.
Let’s be clear: Russia invaded Ukraine. It was unprovoked. It was an act of aggression fueled by greed and the delusions of a dictator who thought he could conquer a sovereign nation in days. He failed—because Ukraine fought back, because NATO stood strong, because the U.S. did the right thing. And now, instead of continuing to stand for democracy, the U.S. is choosing appeasement. Choosing betrayal. Choosing to abandon Ukraine and our allies for the sake of Trump’s political agenda.
This is not just a foreign policy failure—it is a moral reckoning. Every day that Congress fails to act, fails to speak out, fails to unequivocally support Ukraine, it chips away at the very ideals this country once claimed to represent. If we allow this retreat to happen, we are not just failing Ukraine—we are emboldening every dictator who dreams of expanding their power by force.
Oppose this loudly, vocally, and continuously. Stand with Ukraine. Stand with NATO. Stand against autocracy, against tyranny, against the forces that seek to dismantle democracy for their own gain. Prove that there are still leaders in this country who have the courage to do what is right.
