An Open Letter

To: Sen. McCormick, Rep. Deluzio, Sen. Fetterman

From: A constituent in Darlington, PA

May 8

I am writing to express my deep opposition to any proposal or legislation that would allow the sale or transfer of our public lands for the purpose of extracting natural resources. Public lands are not only a vital part of our natural heritage—they are essential to the health of our environment, the preservation of biodiversity, and the well-being of future generations. Selling off these lands to private interests for short-term profits threatens the very ecosystems that support clean air, pure water, and climate stability. It undermines the role of public lands as shared spaces for recreation, education, and cultural heritage. Once these lands are sold or irreversibly damaged by mining, drilling, or logging, they cannot be restored to their original state. This is a loss we cannot afford. Furthermore, such actions often bypass the input of local communities, Indigenous nations, and environmental experts. Decisions about public lands must reflect the will of the public—not just the interests of powerful industries. The long-term ecological and economic benefits of conservation far outweigh the temporary gains from resource extraction. I urge you to oppose any measure that would open the door to the privatization or exploitation of public lands for commercial purposes. Instead, I encourage you to champion policies that protect and preserve these irreplaceable spaces for the benefit of all Americans, now and in the future. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to seeing your leadership in defending our public lands.
