I strongly urge you to block Mike Huckabee’s confirmation as Ambassador to Israel. Mike Huckabee has a disturbing history of Islamophobic remarks and anti-Palestinian views. Now, he’s Trump’s pick to represent the U.S. in Israel. Confirming Huckabee would further enable the administration's harmful agenda in Gaza and exacerbate tensions in a region that desperately needs diplomatic efforts. Huckabee has made repeated statements that demean Palestinians and Muslims. In 2008, he shockingly claimed, "There’s really no such thing as a Palestinian.”¹ He has long supported illegal Israeli settlements and advocated for the complete annexation of Palestinian lands, showing a blatant disregard for Palestinian rights. His Islamophobic rhetoric is equally harmful. Huckabee has described Islam as “a religion that promotes the most murderous mayhem on the planet.”² These words go beyond being offensive—they foster hate and contribute to the violence and discrimination that Muslims face worldwide. In a 2017 interview, Huckabee claimed (https://x.com/ragipsoylu/status/1856414189671063699) that “There is no such thing as a West Bank. It’s Judea and Samaria (the territory’s biblical name). There’s no such thing as a settlement. They’re communities, they’re neighborhoods, they’re cities. There’s no such thing as an occupation.” In contrast, in July 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) said (https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/top-un-court-deliver-opinion-israels-occupation-palestinian-territories-2024-07-19/) that “Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories and settlements there are illegal and should be withdrawn as soon as possible.” Mike Huckabee is not the kind of person who should represent the United States on the world stage. We need an ambassador who values human rights and international law, not one who dehumanizes entire groups of people.
