Support Impeachment of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth

December 13

I am writing to urge you to support Representative Shri Thanedar's articles of impeachment against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The charges of murder, conspiracy to murder, and reckless mishandling of classified information are grounded in serious allegations that demand congressional accountability. The September 2 military strikes against alleged narco-boats raise profound legal concerns. After the initial strike off the Venezuelan coast, a second strike killed survivors of the first attack. This follow-up strike appears to violate the laws of war by targeting people who no longer posed an imminent threat. Lawmakers have repeatedly requested unedited footage and specific orders related to these strikes, yet the administration has refused transparency. These are not minor procedural questions but potential war crimes that undermine America's commitment to international law. The Signal Gate breach compounds these concerns. In March, Hegseth sent messages in a group chat that included The Atlantic's editor-in-chief, sharing real-time information about American troop movements as they prepared to strike Houthi targets in Yemen. The Pentagon's watchdog concluded last week that this action risked endangering American troops. Our service members deserve leadership that prioritizes their safety over careless communication practices. I understand the political reality of a Republican-controlled Congress, but some actions transcend partisan calculation. Hegseth's conduct represents a fundamental breach of the responsibilities entrusted to the Secretary of Defense. Whether through impeachment proceedings, congressional hearings, or other oversight mechanisms, Congress must hold him accountable for actions that endanger both our troops and our nation's legal standing. I ask that you publicly support these impeachment articles and use every available tool to demand transparency regarding the September strikes and accountability for the classified information breach. Our military and our Constitution deserve nothing less.
