No Funding Bills That Gut the Department of Education

To: Sen. Baldwin, Rep. Pocan, Sen. Johnson

From: A constituent in Madison, WI

November 24

I am writing to express my deep concern about the administration’s ongoing dismantling of the Department of Education and its vital programs. The announced plans to transfer responsibilities for K–12 education, special education, and civil rights enforcement to other agencies would slash federal funding for public schools, eliminate support for students with disabilities, and end enforcement of civil rights protections in education 5calls.org. These changes would also undermine federal student loan and workforce development programs, harming millions of students, families, and educators. I urge you to: • Forcefully oppose the proposal to reclassify professional degrees in ways that reduce student loan access. • Conduct oversight into this unconstitutional dismantling of a federal agency without congressional approval. • Refuse to pass any funding bill that enables cuts to essential education programs and protections. Federal education programs are not optional—they are lifelines for students with disabilities, low-income families, and communities across the country. Please act decisively to protect the Department of Education and ensure that civil rights, equity, and opportunity remain at the center of our national education policy. Thank you for your time and commitment to safeguarding our schools and students.
