I am absolutely furious about the restrictions imposed on Ukraine’s Starshield communications systems while Russia continues attacking Ukrainian cities, energy infrastructure, and civilians. I do not care whether this was ordered by Elon Musk, donald trump, the Pentagon, or a squirrel running across a wire. I want to know who authorized it, why it happened, and what Congress intends to do about it. Ukraine is fighting for its survival against a country that invaded its territory, murders its civilians, and deliberately destroys the infrastructure people depend upon to survive. Now, at precisely the moment Ukraine needs to defend itself against Russian drones and missiles, someone has interfered with the communications systems that make those defenses possible. This is unconscionable. And what exactly is our government doing pressuring Ukraine to stop attacking Russian oil infrastructure? Russia uses its energy revenues to finance this war. Ukraine has every right to defend itself and to strike legitimate military targets, including infrastructure supporting Russia’s war effort, consistent with international humanitarian law. Meanwhile, this administration is easing restrictions on Russian oil sales. Why are we helping Russia generate revenue while attempting to prevent Ukraine from disrupting the resources that finance Russia’s invasion? Russia’s military cooperation with Iran makes this even more outrageous. We should not be strengthening a government that supports another American adversary while simultaneously undermining a country defending itself against aggression. I want Congress to demand answers about the Starshield restrictions, insist that Ukraine’s defensive capabilities be restored immediately, and investigate whether American military support or intelligence is being used as leverage to force Ukraine into concessions that benefit Russia. We do not need to be abandoning Ukraine. We do not need to be helping Russia finance its war. And we certainly do not need to be interfering with Ukraine’s ability to protect its own people. If American officials are deliberately undermining Ukraine’s defenses while Russian forces are killing Ukrainian civilians, that is a profound betrayal of a country we have promised to support. Congress has a responsibility to intervene. I expect you to exercise it.
