The wrongful deportation and arbitrary detention of Kilmar Abrego Garcia violates fundamental principles of due process and human rights. Deporting an individual who was lawfully present in the United States without any judicial review or legal basis is an alarming breach of established procedures. Additionally, imprisoning Abrego Garcia in inhumane conditions at the Terrorism Confinement Center in El Salvador despite a lack of charges or convictions against him is unconscionable. The government's assertion that it lacks jurisdiction or ability to secure Abrego Garcia's release from unlawful imprisonment sets a dangerous precedent that undermines the rule of law. No person should be subject to indefinite detention without recourse based solely on executive overreach. Respecting due process rights and adhering to lawful removal processes is paramount, even for non-citizens. I urge the Administration to comply fully with court orders, work diligently to obtain Abrego Garcia's prompt release and return to the United States, and implement systemic reforms to prevent any future unlawful deportations or extrajudicial transfers. Preserving judicial oversight and human rights for all people must be a core priority in immigration enforcement protocols.
