Oppose $1B in Taxpayer Funds for White House Ballroom Security

To: Rep. Houlahan, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Kennett Square, PA

May 5

I am writing to urge you to oppose the inclusion of $1 billion in funding for "White House security upgrades" related to the construction of a new White House ballroom in the upcoming budget reconciliation bill.It was previously stated by the Trump administration that this project would be funded by private donations and would cost taxpayers nothing. Providing $1 billion in public funds is a misuse of taxpayer money, particularly during a time of significant economic challenges for everyday Americans. While security at the White House is crucial, taxpayers should not be responsible for financing a personal vanity project, especially one that has become a contentious and costly endeavor. The reported $1B allocation is, according to public reports, being added to a broader immigration enforcement package, forcing taxpayers to fund a structure that was promised to be privately financed. I ask that you: 1) Strip the $1 billion for the White House ballroom construction/security from the reconciliation bill. 2) Hold the administration to its promise of private funding for this project. 3) Ensure reconciliation funds are focused on pressing national priorities, not luxury renovations.
