Defend Congress’s Power of the Purse! Vote NO on H.R. 3
To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt
From: A verified voter in Jefferson City, MO
July 12
The House has already passed the Trump-maga rescission bill (H.R. 3), but you still have time, and the responsibility, to stop it. Vote NO on this misguided and dangerous legislation before the July 18 deadline.
H.R. 3 would claw back $9.4 billion in critical federal funding that Congress has already approved. These funds are already allocated to essential services from public transit systems to neighborhood infrastructure, clean transportation initiatives, and even public broadcasting.
Slashing this funding midstream will delay or cancel projects that communities across America rely on. In Oregon alone, hundreds of Department of Transportation jobs are on the line. Transit agencies like TriMet are preparing for devastating service cuts.
This bill also sets a dangerous precedent. It mimics the very same illegal impoundments that the GAO has already condemned, executive actions that directly undermined the constitutional authority of Congress. If passed, H.R. 3 would erode your power as lawmakers and open the floodgates for future administrations to rescind funds on a whim.
This is not how democracy works. The people elected Congress to allocate federal funding, not Donald Trump.
Vote NO on H.R. 3! Protect our infrastructure, preserve public media, and uphold the integrity of congressional appropriations.
