I’m writing to demand that you challenge this administration’s foreign and economic policies before more Americans pay the price. President Trump launched military strikes against Iran on February 28 without consulting our closest allies. Three weeks later, he demanded they send warships to secure the Strait of Hormuz. France, Germany, the U.K., Japan, Australia, and Spain all refused. Germany’s defense minister was blunt: “This is not our war; we have not started it.” That isolation is the direct result of a year spent bullying partners with tariffs, threatening NATO over Greenland, and disparaging allied troops who fought alongside Americans in Afghanistan.
Those tariffs hit Americans hardest. The Tax Foundation found they cost U.S. households an average of $1,000 in 2025, with 2026 projections reaching $1,500. Seven in 10 Americans say tariffs are driving up prices. Manufacturing lost 77,000 jobs between April and December 2025. Oil is above $100 a barrel. Thirteen service members are dead in a war Congress never authorized.
The United States is not an autocracy. You were not elected to rubber-stamp executive orders and blank-check military operations. Vote against further unilateral trade actions. Demand congressional authorization for continued military operations in Iran. Use your oversight authority to hold this administration accountable for the diplomatic and economic damage already done. Your constituents and this country’s future depend on it.
