I am writing to express my grave concern regarding news reports that ICE is preparing to spend $20 million on gloves that deliver a 380-volt electric shock on bare skin. You don’t have to have much imagination to understand how they will use this to harm even more people. ICE is already out of control and killing people, and they don’t need another way to do it more easily. I am a physician and I can tell you that a 380-volt shock can be fatal to an adult human. An electrical shock of this magnitude can cause fatal cardiac arrhythmia (ventricular fibrillation) and cardiac arrest, deep tissue burns, respiratory paralysis, nerve damage, and severe psychological trauma. The manufacturer’s own information states not to use the electric-shock gloves on elderly, children, or pregnant people—but you know this wont stop ICE from using them indiscriminately. This will make ICE even more dangerous and cruel. I demand that as a member of Congress, you do everything in your power to stop ICE from buying these electric-shock gloves. News reports are that the purchase will be completed within days. YOU MUST ACT NOW. I am asking you to apply public pressure to stop this, and use all routes available to you in Congress to stop this. It is literally a matter of life and death.
