DOGE’s Ignorant and Performative "Algorithm Slashing" of Science/Medical Grants

I am writing to express my profound outrage regarding the recent testimonies and court filings provided by Nathan Cavanaugh concerning the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The details revealed—specifically the use of "algorithmic slashing" to terminate critical scientific and medical programs—demonstrate a level of gross negligence that borders on departmental malpractice. According to Cavanaugh’s testimony, DOGE utilized AI scrapers to review thousands of federal grants without any human oversight from the scientific community. By using a "negative keyword list" to flag terms like "disparities" and "diversity," this administration has: -- Defunded Pediatric Oncology: Terminated a study on childhood leukemia simply because the summary mentioned "disparities in survival rates." -- Endangered Global Health: Mid-operation funding was pulled from a USAID contract aimed at containing an Ebola outbreak in Uganda. -- Threatened Food Security: The National Plant Germplasm System lost 300 scientists, leading to the permanent loss of unique U.S. crop strains. -- Blinded Public Health: Slashed CDC wastewater monitoring for Polio and COVID-19 by 80% based on the false AI-driven assumption that it was "redundant." Perhaps most insulting to the American taxpayer is the fiscal dishonesty. While DOGE claimed billions in savings, the audited reality shows a net negative impact. Due to "termination for convenience" fees, legal costs, and a $4.1 billion loss in private-sector R&D revenue, these cuts are actually costing the country more than the original programs. Cavanaugh himself admitted under cross-examination that these cuts were "numerically de minimis" regarding the national debt. This confirms that these actions were never about fiscal responsibility; they were a performative attempt to "send a message" at the expense of children’s lives and our nation's scientific infrastructure. As your constituent, I demand that you: 1.. Launch a formal inquiry into the methodology used by DOGE and the lack of oversight from the NIH and NSF. 2.. Hold public hearings to question the leadership responsible for these "algorithmic" decisions. 3.. Work to reinstate funding for critical medical and agricultural programs that were terminated for purely ideological reasons. Our government should be led by data and expertise, not by an ignorant tech worker using a made-up "woke" filter on a chatbot. I expect you to hold this administration accountable for this catastrophic failure of governance.
