March 14

I am writing to you as a concerned constituent regarding the detention of Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist and Columbia University graduate, who is currently being held in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Louisiana. His arrest has raised significant concerns about the protection of free speech and the rights of lawful permanent residents in our country. Mr. Khalil, a green card holder and a respected advocate for human rights, has not been charged with any crime. Reports indicate that his detention stems from his activism and organizing efforts, which are constitutionally protected under the First Amendment. This situation not only undermines the principles of justice and due process but also sets a troubling precedent for the treatment of individuals who exercise their right to peaceful protest. As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate action to advocate for Mr. Khalil's release and to ensure that his case is handled with transparency and fairness. I believe it is imperative that our government upholds the values of democracy and human rights that define our nation. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I trust in your commitment to justice and look forward to seeing your leadership on this issue.
