I am writing to you as your constituent to express my profound alarm regarding the recent actions taken by the Department of Justice (DOJ) under the direction of President Donald J. Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi. I am formally urging you to support and initiate impeachment proceedings against both the President and the Attorney General for what appears to be a systemic and retaliatory weaponization of federal law enforcement against political rivals and independent institutions. The foundation of our democracy relies on the impartial application of justice. However, recent developments demonstrate a disturbing pattern of using the DOJ as a tool for personal and political retribution: Retaliation Against Minnesota Officials: The issuance of criminal subpoenas and investigations into Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey—targeting them for their public speech and policy disagreements regarding federal immigration surges—is a direct assault on the principles of federalism. Investigating elected state leaders for exercising their First Amendment rights and representing their constituents is a hallmark of authoritarianism, not the rule of law. Interference with Federal Reserve Independence: The DOJ’s criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, following his refusal to align interest rate policy with the President’s personal demands, is an unprecedented breach of the central bank's independence. This misuse of the grand jury process to intimidate an official for their non-partisan, statutory duties threatens the stability of our national economy and the integrity of our financial institutions. Abuse of Office by Attorney General Bondi: Attorney General Pam Bondi has seemingly abandoned the Department’s historical independence, acting instead as a personal enforcer for the Executive Branch. By facilitating these targeted investigations, she has violated her oath to support and defend the Constitution, prioritizing political loyalty over the equal administration of justice. These actions constitute "high Crimes and Misdemeanors" that threaten the very core of our Republic. If the President and his Attorney General are permitted to use the power of the federal government to prosecute and silence those who disagree with them, the rule of law ceases to exist. As my representative in the United States Senate, you have a sworn duty to provide a check on such executive overreach. I ask that you publicly denounce these retaliatory tactics and call for immediate impeachment inquiries into President Trump and Attorney General Bondi. I look forward to hearing your position on this critical matter and learning what steps you will take to protect our democratic institutions.
