I was very disappointed to hear that the House passed the "big beautiful bill". In my opinion, it is not beautiful.
These are some negative ways it can affect Kansans:
1. It cuts Medicare. We have been paying into Medicare for all of our adult lives. Medicare is ours. It is healthcare that we paid for.
2. It cuts Medicaid. Many pregnant women deliver babies with Medicaid. Many Kansas children receive Medicaid. Many nursing home bills for seniors are paid for by Medicaid.
3. It cuts SNAP payments and food assistance to Kansans.
4. If we calculate the tax benefits and the tax cuts, Kansans earning between $17K and $51K willi lose about $700 per year.
5. Kansans earning less than $17K, will lose $1K per year. That's a lot of money when money is already scarce.
6. The bill will add $3.8 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years. The interest for this debt will impact Kansans in both our tax payments and our interest rates for long term purchases.
Please vote No to any bill that cuts Medicare, Medicaid and food assistance.
