I write to you today as your constituent with the utmost urgency. President Trump has publicly declared that “a whole civilization will die tonight” — a direct threat to obliterate an entire civilian population unless Iran meets his demands. Human rights experts, including former Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth, have confirmed this constitutes a threat of collective punishment — a war crime under the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Threats to systematically destroy Iran’s civilian power grid, bridges, water infrastructure, and populated areas — dismissed by the President himself as justified despite violating international law — represent a profound abuse of presidential war powers. The Constitution grants Congress the sole authority to declare war, yet the President is unilaterally threatening the annihilation of a civilization.
This conduct meets the constitutional threshold for impeachment: high crimes and misdemeanors. Threatening war crimes, inciting mass civilian casualties, and recklessly destabilizing global security are not the acts of a president faithfully executing the laws of the United States.
I urge you to immediately introduce or co-sponsor articles of impeachment. History will judge whether Congress upheld its constitutional duty at this critical moment. The lives of millions depend on your action.
