I am writing to urge you to support H.R. 4405/S. 2557, the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and release the Epstein Files held by the Department of Justice - fully and immediately.
Sexual assault and sex trafficking victims are overwhelmingly women and girls. The number of women and girls who are impacted by these crimes rises exponentially when victims are members of additionally marginalized communities, based on wealth, citizenship status, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, employment status, ethnicity, ability, or race. Sexual assault and sex trafficking crimes are significantly underreported and subsequently underlitigated.
The powerful and privileged in any society have a duty to protect those who have less power. The Epstein-related documents that have already been released have been damning, implicating the powerful in the United States, and beyond, of being predators rather than protectors.
And while these powerful people remain hidden in the shadows, 1,000 women and girls who were victimized by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell - including girls as young as 14 - have gone public with their painful stories, bringing them into the light. These victims and survivors are strong and courageous. They are a model for us all, and they deserve justice.
These survivors, as well as the wider public, deserve full transparency to ensure accountability and restore trust that justice is being served–for all and by all.
