Please vote no on H.R. 22: SAVE Act
It is not a citizen’s responsibility to prove they are eligible to vote. The government very well already knows who is eligible to vote, and requiring me to prove that I am is purposefully adding a barrier to voting. We should all be default enrolled in voting, not have to prove that we want to vote by putting in extra effort.
Not only does it provide the need for further identification, this is fundamentally attacking online, mail in, and mass registration at voter registration drives. In Indiana, I can update my voting residence easily by mail or online after I move, as we register at the BMV, which still requires me to prove my address and that I have moved. This would be partially gutted by this bill, making Indiana who already has a low voter turnout, fall further behind.
