No money for this Republican administration’s Iran War

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

June 23

I am writing to urge you to vote NO on the Pentagon's $80 billion Iran war supplemental fund request. This Republican administration’s wasteful, unnecessary, and illegal war has cost American lives wasted billions, and has further destabilized an already unstable region of the world. It will take years of diplomacy to return to anything like peace. This request would be in addition to the $1.5 trillion the administration is already seeking for the military: a nearly 50% increase over current funding levels. That is a blank check, with no credible accounting of where the money goes. The cost of this war keep changing. Last month, Secretary Hegseth told Congress the war cost $29 billion. Now the ask is $80 billion. Before that, the Pentagon suggested $200 billion. Some of your fellow members of Congress have warned the real price tag could go even higher. Meanwhile, families here, struggling to afford food, gasoline and medications, are being asked to pay for a war a large majority of Americans oppose. There is zero justification for rubber-stamping an additional $80 billion spending surge with no transparency, and so much uncertainty about what comes next. My wife and I strongly urge you and your congressional colleagues to block any further funding for this administration’s disastrous war.
