A Koch-backed study from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University found that Senator Bernie Sanders's "Medicare for All" plan would reduce overall health care spending in the United States by $2 trillion over 10 years, from 2022 to 2031 compared to current expenditures. The study estimates that by empowering the government to negotiate lower drug prices and streamlining administrative costs, "Medicare for All" could yield $482 billion in reduced health care spending and over $1.5 trillion in administrative savings. Furthermore, the report acknowledges that eliminating employer-sponsored insurance would increase worker wages by relieving individuals and employers of substantial health expenditures. While the initial cost projection had a significant $3 trillion error, even the corrected numbers affirm that a single-payer system like "Medicare for All" would provide universal coverage at a lower overall cost than the current system, freeing up resources that could be reallocated towards improving health outcomes and welfare. A universal, single-payer system can deliver quality health care to all Americans more affordably and efficiently, helping move the nation forward and inspiring Americans to be more productive while bringing more money home in their paychecks.
