An Open Letter
To: Mayor Parker
From: A verified voter in Philadelphia, PA
June 12
I urge you to allow the peaceful protest of No Kings Day to happen this Saturday June 14, with no escalation from police. Philadelphia Police Department has already been caught on video and spread nationally and internationally KNEELING on a protestors neck. These protests have and are peaceful and to see video evidence of police agitating and attacking protestors is concerning at minimum.
A reminder the first amendment - applying to all parts of the United States - allows for the right to assembly. There is nothing violent or wrong happening here. Allowing the PPD to attack protestors is a direct violation of the first amendment and could end the PPD and city in a civil rights case.
A reminder as well the tax dollars of Philadelphia pay for yours and others roles. We pay our taxes for you to stand up and keep us safe, not to back billionaires or the federal government. The government of Philadelphia should and does work for the people - so keep us safe. Do not allow PPD to attack us. Do not allow ICE’s tactical teams into the city. Do not allow armored Bear Cat vehicles or chemical weapons in our city.
We are watching. I am asking you to do the right thing for our city, not what the government wants. Philadelphia was founded on No Kings. Allow this to happen.
