The Supreme Court has unanimously ruled that Kilmar Abrego Garcia must be returned to the United States, and that the Executive Branch must obey the district court ruling to facilitate that return. Since President Bukele is refusing to release this innocent man, the Executive Branch has the responsibility to use all its diplomatic levers to change his mind. Stopping payments to El Salvador until Abrego Garcia is released is an immediate and obvious step that can be taken in this vein. The Fifth Amendment provides all persons in the United States with the protection of due process of law. SCOTUS is a co-equal branch of government and its rulings must be obeyed by the Executive. Contact President Bukele and negotiate for Abrego Garcia’s immediate release. We the people refuse to believe that this small thing is beyond the President’s abilities.
