I am writing as an Arizona constituent to respectfully urge you to oppose the nomination of Steve Pearce as Director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Arizona is home to millions of acres of BLM-managed public lands that are vital to our state’s environmental health, cultural heritage, recreation, and local economies. These lands include fragile desert ecosystems that are already facing significant strain due to prolonged drought, wildfire risk, habitat loss, and rapid population growth. Decisions made by BLM leadership directly affect water sustainability, conservation efforts, outdoor access, and the protection of culturally and ecologically sensitive areas across our state. The Director of the BLM must demonstrate a strong commitment to balanced, science-based land stewardship that carefully weighs conservation, responsible use, tribal interests, and long-term sustainability. At a time when the Southwest is experiencing increasing environmental pressures, it is essential that federal land management prioritize resilience, collaboration, and preservation of public lands for future generations. Public lands are a shared national trust, and in Arizona they play a critical role in supporting wildlife, recreation, tourism, and the overall quality of life for our communities. Leadership of such a large and impactful agency requires a demonstrated ability to manage these lands thoughtfully and responsibly, with attention to both environmental protection and sustainable use. Given the long-term implications this role has for Arizona’s natural resources and public lands, I respectfully ask that you carefully consider this nomination. I urge you to oppose this confirmation and support a nominee who is committed to responsible stewardship and the protection of public lands for current and future generations.
