Urgent concern about VA centralization and impact on veterans. I am a family member of a veteran and concerned constituent in Columbus, OH. I’m writing about an internal VA realignment that I believe poses serious risks to veterans’ care and benefits. Recently, VA leadership issued a directive to immediately centralize critical support functions—including law enforcement, procurement, and especially budget and finance—under central management in Washington, D.C. Local facilities and the three VA administrations (VBA, VHA, and NCA) are being told to realign staff and responsibilities on a very short timeline, with little transparency. From what frontline VA employees are reporting, this realignment is happening: With minimal planning or input from affected offices In departments that are already severely understaffed On a rushed schedule that could disrupt disability compensation, GI Bill payments, and payroll for VA staff At the same time, VA’s spending on community care and private providers has grown dramatically in recent years, raising concerns that the internal VA system is being weakened while more care is pushed outside the VA. I respectfully ask you to: Seek a full briefing from VA on this realignment, including specific impacts on: Claims processing and payments (compensation, pension, education, etc.) Local VA medical center budgets, staffing, and procurement Job security and workload for existing VA finance and support staff Urge VA to pause or slow implementation until: A detailed implementation plan is publicly available Risks to veteran benefits and care are clearly addressed Frontline employees and veterans have had a chance to provide input Publicly commit to protecting a strong, publicly run VA system and preventing back‑door privatization that could harm veterans’ access and continuity of care. Veterans and VA workers deserve transparency and a real plan—not rushed centralization that could undermine trust in the system they rely on. I hope you will treat this as a priority oversight issue. Thank you for your time and for your work on behalf of veterans.
