People over politics- Fund the Government, Protect Health Care, Defend Democracy
To: Rep. Shreve, Sen. Banks, Sen. Young
From: A constituent in Indianapolis, IN
October 1, 2025
I am writing as your constituent to remind you of something too often forgotten in Washington: you were elected to serve the people, not political games, not party leaders, and not personal ambition.
I expect you to do your job and ensure that:
• The government remains funded and open, without using shutdowns as bargaining chips.
• All duly elected representatives are sworn in and allowed to serve the constituents who sent them.
• Affordable, accessible health care is protected and expanded for every American.
To be clear, I fully support any effort — including a shutdown — if it is genuinely used to defend the American people’s rights, expand affordable health care, or stop the rise of authoritarian policies and figures such as Donald Trump and those loyal to him. What I reject is the use of shutdowns to serve narrow partisan interests, personal loyalty, or political theater.
Your duty is to us — the voters who put you in office. We are watching, and we will remember. Just as we elect, we can remove.
I urge you to put country over party, people over politics, and responsibility over rhetoric. The American people deserve a government that works, not one that makes a mockery of our democracy. Anything less is failure.
