Defend due process, rebuke executive overreach on immigration

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Gooden, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Mesquite, TX

April 19

The Trump administration's claim that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a gang member is a lie that undermines due process and respect for the rule of law. While the administration has defied court orders to facilitate Mr. Abrego Garcia's return to the United States after admitting his deportation was an error, this blatant disregard for judicial authority and constitutional protections is alarming. As citizens, we have a duty to speak out against any overreach of executive power that undermines our system of checks and balances. Regardless of one's views on immigration policy, the president does not have the authority to simply ignore court rulings with which he disagrees. Doing so erodes the foundations of our democracy and the civil liberties we all hold dear. I urge you to take a strong stance in defense of due process rights and demand accountability from the Trump administration. Condoning the president's defiance in this case sets a dangerous precedent that could enable further erosion of constitutional protections down the line. We must make it clear that no person is above the law, not even the president. Upholding the rule of law is essential for preserving the freedoms and values that define us as a nation.
