Oppose HR 7661, a national book banning bill!

To: Rep. Amodei

From: A constituent in Sparks, NV

March 23

I am writing to demand you oppose H.R. 7661, a bill that opens the door for nationwide book banning. This bill uses vague, divisive, and discriminatory language that will not protect anyone, instead stoking fear and division in our country. There is no place for any kind of censorship in a democratic society. Personal preference cannot be the basis of policy and especially cannot dictate what others have access to. This bill seeks to undermine the legal precedent set by Miller vs. California and is a direct violation of the First Amendment. Instead, I urge you to support H.R. 6440, the Right to Read Act, to fund education and increase student literacy across America. Don’t let your legacy be one of book banning. Fight for the right to read for everyone.
