The recent Israeli airstrike on a displacement camp in Rafah, Gaza that tragically killed dozens of Palestinian civilians, including children, is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and human rights. While Prime Minister Netanyahu acknowledged it as a "tragic mistake", this incident underscores the urgent need for independent and impartial investigations by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The US must refrain from shielding Israel from accountability and allow these international legal bodies to thoroughly examine potential war crimes and crimes against humanity. An honest reckoning is essential to achieve justice for the victims and their families, as well as to prevent such devastating attacks on civilians in the future. The international community cannot turn a blind eye to these atrocities - a path towards lasting peace requires adherence to the rule of law and respect for human rights.
