Reject Harmful Anti-Trans Bill, Protect Vulnerable Students' Rights

To: Gov. Whitmer, Sen. Outman, Rep. Posthumus

From: A constituent in Rockford, MI

May 19

This bill restricting transgender athletes and students from participating in sports, accessing bathrooms, and obtaining healthcare based on their gender identity is harmful and discriminatory. Excluding trans youth from activities, facilities, and services that are vital for their mental, physical wellbeing, and basic dignity violates their fundamental rights. Studies show trans-inclusive policies benefit all students and promote values of diversity and inclusion. This proposal would lead to invasive screening practices and open the door to litigation against schools. It aims to solve non-existent issues and needlessly targets a vulnerable group. Rather than wasting time on this, we should prioritize fostering an environment where all students feel safe, respected and able to pursue their interests and meet their needs free from discrimination. The bills mentioned are HB4066, HB4190, HB 4031, and HB4024.
