Vote yes on SB 1105, the Protect California Rights Act. This bill is a direct response to documented federal abuses happening right now on California streets, and it deserves your full support.
The incidents driving this bill are not hypothetical. In Orange County, ICE officers fired less-lethal projectiles without warning into a crowd protesting the murder of Renee Nicole Good, leaving at least two people permanently blind after being shot in the head. DHS agents are running roving patrols that stop and detain people based on race. Local police have been used to set up perimeters while ICE violently arrests community members, and people have been stopped and questioned simply for recording federal agents in public.
SB 1105 addresses this directly. It requires that any interagency agreements with federal law enforcement explicitly prohibit racial profiling, criminalization of speech, and use of unauthorized weapons. It also ensures California does not hand federal officers broad stop-and-arrest powers beyond their federal jurisdiction. Co-sponsored by the ACLU and CHIRLA, this bill is a measured, necessary check on federal overreach. Vote yes.
