Veto THC ban
To: Gov. Abbott
From: A constituent in Fort Worth, TX
May 23
I am writing to respectfully urge you to veto any proposed legislation that would impose a ban or further restrictions on THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in Texas. As a concerned Texan and advocate for compassionate, evidence-based healthcare, I believe such a ban would have harmful consequences for patients who rely on THC-containing treatments for serious medical conditions.
THC, when responsibly regulated, has shown strong evidence of therapeutic benefit for patients suffering from chronic pain, cancer, PTSD, epilepsy, and other debilitating conditions. Many individuals who have exhausted traditional treatments have found relief through medical cannabis, enabling them to regain quality of life, maintain employment, and avoid more dangerous pharmaceuticals such as opioids.
Texas has made important strides in expanding access to medical cannabis through the Compassionate Use Program. A THC ban would undermine this progress and jeopardize the well-being of thousands of Texans who depend on these therapies under the guidance of qualified healthcare professionals.
Rather than moving toward prohibition, I encourage you to consider expanding safe, regulated access to THC-based medicine and supporting research that can further our understanding of its benefits and risks. Our state has the opportunity to lead with both compassion and science.
Thank you for your time and your continued leadership on behalf of all Texans.
