Protect the First Amendment
To: Sen. Britt
From: A constituent in West Blocton, AL
November 23
The passed legislation granting unilateral power to the treasury secretary to strip nonprofits of their tax-exempt status poses a grave threat to civil liberties and democratic freedoms. This authoritarian overreach enables the executive branch to silence opposition and dissent by weaponizing legal status against any group they deem politically inconvenient. Revoking an organization's nonprofit designation without due process is a blatant violation of constitutional rights and runs counter to American values of free speech and assembly. I urge you to oppose this dangerous bill that undermines civic engagement and enables unchecked governmental oppression of civil society groups. Nonprofit organizations play a vital role in advancing social progress, holding power accountable, and giving voice to underrepresented communities. Allowing their arbitrary suppression curtails fundamental freedoms and deals a severe blow to our democratic institutions. Reject this assault on the vibrant nonprofit sector that strengthens our nation through its diversity of perspectives and advocacy for the marginalized. Uphold constitutional protections and preserve the ability of nonprofits to operate freely without fear of political retaliation.
