Oppose the SAVE America Act as an Unconstitutional Poll Tax

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet, Rep. DeGette

From: A verified voter in Denver, CO

March 16

I need you to oppose the SAVE America Act and protect the filibuster that would prevent its passage. This bill is a modern poll tax that violates the 24th Amendment, and it would disenfranchise millions of legitimate voters under the guise of election security. The bill requires every registered voter to reregister in person with proof of citizenship, but Real ID won't suffice. Instead, voters need passports costing at least $165, passport cards at $65, or certified birth certificates up to $100. Half of Americans don't have passports, and Marco Rubio's State Department just cut passport office capacity in half while eliminating library applications. Married women who changed their names face additional hurdles requiring marriage certificates. This is exactly what poll taxes did in the Jim Crow South, and the Supreme Court ruled those unconstitutional in 1966. The bill also forces states to hand over complete voter rolls to DHS and use a DOGE-created purge system with a 14 percent error rate. Millions of eligible voters would lose their rights because of unreliable Social Security data. Even Trump's own assistant attorney general admits there's no evidence of widespread noncitizen voting. This isn't about election security. It's about suppression and a federal power grab over state elections. Vote no.
