Vote No on the SAVE America Act and Protect Voting Access
To: Sen. Kelly, Sen. Gallego
From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ
February 16
I urge you to vote no on the SAVE America Act, which passed the House on February 11, 2026 and now awaits Senate consideration. This legislation would strip voting rights from millions of currently eligible Americans by requiring all voters to provide proof of citizenship when registering or re-registering to vote.
Nearly 21 million U.S. citizens of voting age do not have proof of citizenship readily available. Only about half of American adults possess a passport, and millions lack access to a paper copy of their birth certificate. This requirement would create insurmountable barriers for low-income voters, young people, rural communities, people living on tribal lands, unhoused individuals, and those who have changed their last name. The impact would disproportionately fall on people of color.
These are not hypothetical concerns. These are real Americans who are currently eligible to vote and have been participating in our democracy. Requiring documents that millions of citizens simply do not have on hand is not election integrity, it is voter suppression disguised as reform.
The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy. Every eligible person should be allowed and encouraged to participate in elections, not discouraged through unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles. In the last Congress, Democrats proposed the Freedom to Vote Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act to make voting more accessible and safe. The SAVE America Act moves us in the opposite direction.
I ask you to stand with the millions of Americans who would lose their ability to vote under this legislation. Vote no on the SAVE America Act and protect the voting rights of your constituents and all Americans.
