I am furious and horrified by Congress’ failure to stop what ICE is doing in this country. Here in Los Angeles and across the US, people are being snatched up, families are being torn apart, and children are being held in detention. Let me be clear that this state violence is not enhancing public safety.
I cannot believe that, just as Democrats had real political momentum on this issue, they chose to vote with Republicans to continue “temporarily” funding DHS. Continuing to fund an agency actively harming civilians is not a coherent strategy and is not aligned with what your voters want.
ICE’s own data shows that only a minority of people being detained are criminals. This group does not execute targeted, intelligence-driven operations and overly relies on violence and deadly force. My neighbors should not have to worry about being grabbed or shot because of how they look or where they live!
I am sick of democrats’ incrementalism. Your leadership wrings its hands instead of acting. I do not want my neighbors or our domestic communities terrorized with my tax dollars.
I am demanding immediate action to cut ICE funding and to enact protection for immigrant communities now. End these “negotiations”.
We are sliding precipitously into a situation we have seen before in history where civilians are being disappeared by the state into centers where we have no visibility or oversight. Democrats are our only chance to stop this train before we are completely off the rails. We need you to be courageous and decisive now.
