An Open Letter

To: Rep. Yang Rohr, Gov. Pritzker, Sen. Ellman

From: A constituent in Bolingbrook, IL

February 21

Please oppose HB 1556. At a glance, you might think this bill creates new higher standards for "professional breeders," but once you read the whole thing, you see that this bill would effectively repeal the Humane Pet Store Law passed in 2021. It would once again allow Illinois pet stores to obtain their "inventory" from commercial breeders in and outside Illinois, rather than from our shelters and animal control facilities, currently struggling to find homes for so many dogs.
