WELCOME TO THE RESISTANCE

April 9

Finally. I feel comfortable taking a break from trying to convince my elected officials that they need to start paying attention to what’s going on in our country. Why? Because now their comfort levels have finally been disrupted. Now it’s not just random constituents who are unhappy. Donors are unhappy. Business supporters are unhappy. And these folks are the ones who really matter to a politician. Because a politician’s most important job is to keep their job. And without the money folks, it’s hard. So now the markets, and the rich folk, are tanking. And crying. And wondering how did this all happen. Y’all thought you were all on the same side didn’t you? If they expected a better economy under unified Republican rule, the business moguls were not paying attention. “The last five recessions all started while a Republican was in the White House (Reagan. G.H.W. Bush, G.W. Bush twice, and Trump),” Jeffrey Frankel from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government wrote last year. That soon may be the last six recessions. “A remarkable 9 of the last 10 recessions have started when a Republican was president. The odds that this outcome would have occurred just by chance are even more remote: one out of 100.” Poor judgement, and bets, led to where we find ourselves today. Poor judgement of such a magnitude that reveals the lack of true leadership on most every front that needs it these days. So, I’m happy to take a break from pointing out all the BS that is finally breaking through to you and your party. For his part, Trump appears to be enjoying that he is now undoubtedly the center of attention. Asked to make “dinner remarks” at the National Republican Congressional Committee, he spoke for close to two hours. Discussing the tariffs, he delivered a story with the “sir” marker that indicates the story is false: “These countries are calling us up. Kissing my ass,” he told the audience. “They are dying to make a deal. “Please, please, sir, make a deal. I’ll do anything. I’ll do anything, sir. And then I’ll see some rebel Republican, you know, some guy that wants to grandstand, saying: ‘I think that Congress should take over negotiations.’ Let me tell you: you don’t negotiate like I negotiate.” Trump also told the audience that "I really think we're helped a lot by the tariff situation that’s going on, which is a good situation, not a bad. It's great. It’s going to be legendary, you watch. Legendary in a positive way, I have to say. It’s gonna be legendary.” You betcha.
